Saving Animals & Finding Homes

Our History

Hello everybody, my name is Mona and this is my story

Why did I slip actively into animal welfare? And how can I endure all this? I think fate just chose me. I was born November 3rd, 1972 in Bonn, Germany. And how could it be otherwise, i grew up surrounded by animals: dogs, cats, pigs, geese, chickens and horses have been with me since I was born. Even as a little girl, I was magically drawn to injured animals to take care of them – like they had just been waiting for me to help them.

As a little girl, I really dragged every animal home, even ants I took care of. Only the spiders were not and are not allowed to come near me.

Hello everybody, my name is Mona and this is my story

Why did I slip actively into animal welfare? And how can I endure all this? I think fate just chose me. I was born November 3rd, 1972 in Bonn, Germany. And how could it be otherwise, i growed up surrounded by animals: dogs, cats, pigs, geese, chickens and horses have been with me since I was born. Even as a little girl, I was magically drawn to injured animals to take care of them – like they been just waiting for me to help them.

As a little girl, I really dragged every animal home, even ants I took care of. Only the spiders were not and are not allowed to come near me.

I spent a nice childhood in the nature, mainly on trees to be close to the birds as well. I sponsored a sheep at the youth farm in Bonn. When time permitted, I sometimes helped also at the animal shelter. This was followed by an internship in a residence for people and with a vet, the people with their grief for their beloved animal just went too much on the substance for me, no chance for me to be a vet. So, after graduating school, I did a classic study as an office clerk.

In 1995 I married, he was fond of animals as I am. Unfortunately, for health reasons, it didn’t work out in the long turn. Our child Kimberly was also born in 1995. So I was a hard working single mom for years. Always accompanied by pets.

The second blow came at the age of 25, after my failed marriage, cancer, followed by many hospital stays and 13 operations. My child, my animals and my parents gave me the strength to get through everything. In 2001 I emigrated to Spain, my parents already lived here, and been very happy to have children and grandchild nearby. In 2006 I entered a Spanish finca for the first time, which was a culture shock for me. Dogs everywhere, chained, full of parasites, inside and out, malnourished. I took care of them, food, medication and castrations. Horses were there too, but the crisis put them also absolutely unbearable condition, they just been bones.

As a real estate agent in Spain, I was able to cover the costs for the horses for a full year and a person came up with the brilliant idea of founding an animal protection association. Happy Animales was born. A 17 year long relationship broke up. My 2. Daughter Jania was born in 2007. Since 2018 we are living alone. In 2015 I fainted while driving, my body just said stop, this far and no further. I woke up in the hospital and dozens of tests followed.

Another bad health problem, my intervertebral discs, one does not exist and another has artrosis. For months I was literally paralyzed and gained almost 30 kg due to the fainting and the herniated discs, which always still occur acutely at intervals. I don’t have enough time for an operation. I gave up my job as a broker. Since I’ve lived here, dogs have jumped over my yard gate or howled in front of it until I let them in and looked after them. Cats and kittens meow and meow until they get my attention or come out of their most secret hiding places so that I can find them. Dogs run into my car, so that I can take them with me. It seems the animals find me everywhere… since then there is no escape for me, helping them.

What has happened over the years? I’ve seen so much misery, rescued animals, to be put down to sleep immediately, because of poor husbandry. So many animals have died in my arms, I don’t like to count them, but each one has a place in my heart.

And then the best side, animals that trust again, went back to being healthy and find a great new home.. Dozens of dogs and cats, 3 horses, geese and pigs found a great life through adopters. Every single animal takes my heart by storm. I’m always there immediately when an animal needs help, But unfortunately I can’t always take it in due to lack of space, but mostly it’s the lack of financial background. I found out that I have 2 gifts, the first one always scares me, I can sense 2 weeks before an animal dies. The 2nd is to help horses that are doomed to die, of course this doesn’t work always, but often. My dream is to live with all the animals on the finca. To be there for them 24 hours a day. That will remain a dream, because I belong to the working population. And I don’t play the lottery.

Here the story changed: I lost my father (my rock), my brother, a very good friend, my daughters godfather, and another family member in less then one year 2021/2022. I’m still working hard. But my dream came true, I’m in the process to move to the rescue farm. Animals have given me so much my whole life, helped me not to give up, saved me and I just want to give a little bit back to see them happy and healthy. You are welcome to support the association, the animals and me.

What Drives Us

Our Mission

Ofcourse our wish is to eliminate all animal suffering in the world, and we start in miniature at the finca.

At the finca we have rescued pigs, goats, geese, chickens, horses, cats and dogs that we care for with great love and try to find a good home.

There is also a neutralization program for the many street cats in the area.

Why Adopt?

There are a lot of animals in shelters. Every day people buy animals because they are so cute when they are little babies. What a lot of people often forget is the huge responsibility that comes with owning a pet. They need to have food, they need care from a vet every now and then and ofcourse a lot of love. Animals are almost always the first to be replaced or even abandoned when not wanted by it’s owner anymore.

So if you think about expanding your family with a pet… Please consider one of the wonderful animals in shelters waiting for their forever home.
